The Dangote Group has announced a new strategic partnership with Honeywell International Inc. aimed at accelerating the next phase of growth for the Dangote Petroleum Refinery.
In a statement, the company said the collaboration is expected to increase the refinery’s processing capacity to 1.4 million barrels per day by 2028, a milestone that would position it among the largest refining complexes in the world.
Under the agreement, Honeywell will supply advanced catalysts, specialised equipment, and cutting-edge process technologies designed to enhance the refinery’s ability to process a broader range of crude grades. The technologies will also support improved product quality and overall operational efficiency.
Honeywell’s UOP division has worked with Dangote since 2017, providing essential refining systems including catalyst regeneration units, column trays, and heat-exchange solutions.
Beyond crude refining, Dangote Group is strengthening its petrochemical footprint. The company plans to expand its polypropylene output to 2.4 million metric tons annually, leveraging Honeywell’s Oleflex technology. Polypropylene is widely used in manufacturing, packaging, and the automotive industry.
The Group is also intensifying its fertiliser expansion programme. According to the statement, the company will raise its urea production capacity from 3 million to 9 million metric tons per year. The current facility operates two trains of 1.5 million metric tons each, with four additional trains expected to come onstream to meet growing demand across Africa and international markets.
Dangote Group reaffirmed its commitment to developing world-class industrial capacity, improving Nigeria’s energy security, and supporting sustainable economic growth through major long-term investments and strategic global partnerships.
