Detty December: Bolt Records Sharp Rise in Airport Trips as Holiday Arrivals Increase

Less than eight days into the festive Detty December season, ride-hailing company Bolt has reported a significant rise in airport transportation requests, indicating increased arrivals of Nigerians in the diaspora, tourists, and holiday travellers across major cities.

According to Bolt’s internal mobility data, airport trips surged between November 20 and December 5. Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos recorded a 14.9% increase, while Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja saw a 17.56% jump within the same period.

Bolt noted that this pattern reflects the onset of one of the busiest travel periods of the year, as visitors return for concerts, weddings, festivals, nightlife events, and family gatherings.

Commenting on the development, Weyinmi Aghadiuno, Bolt’s Head of Regulatory & Policy (Africa), said the spike in arrivals highlights the company’s role as a dependable mobility partner during peak festive seasons.

Aghadiuno stated:
“We are thrilled to welcome more people into Nigeria for Detty December, and our focus is to ensure their transition from the airport is seamless. Whether they are heading to their hotels, events, or family homes, Bolt remains dedicated to offering reliable, convenient, and safe transportation throughout the festive period.”

He added that Detty December represents a time of reconnection and celebration, and Bolt is committed to helping travellers immerse themselves in the full holiday experience from the moment they land.
