Ebonyi State University Ban Three Students for Possession of Firearms

The management of Ebonyi State University (EBSU), Abakaliki, has expelled three students for allegedly being in unlawful possession of firearms.

The Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Professor Michael Awoke, made the announcement during the inauguration ceremony of the newly elected Students’ Union Government (SUG) executives for the 2025/2026 academic session, held at the university’s CAS campus.

According to Professor Awoke, the expelled students are Azubike Lawrence from the Department of Medical Laboratory Science, Enyinnaya Ibe Kenneth from the Department of Architecture, and Njoku Joshua from the Department of Animal Science.

He explained that the decision to expel the trio was taken by the university management to serve as a strong warning to other students who might be tempted to engage in similar acts.

The Vice-Chancellor further stressed that the university will no longer tolerate cultism, examination malpractice, or any form of violence on campus. He warned that any student found possessing weapons or attempting to intimidate others—whether students or staff—would be immediately expelled.

Reports indicate that the expelled students were apprehended with firearms and live ammunition during the recently concluded Students’ Union Government election at the university.
