Edo Projects Will Deliver 2.5 Million Votes for Tinubu, Says Okpebholo

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has expressed confidence that the state will deliver 2.5 million votes for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections, attributing the target to the impact of ongoing developmental projects across the state.
The governor made the remarks during an inspection of the ongoing construction of the ultra-modern Jattu Market in Etsako West Local Government Area, describing the project as a major economic investment that will transform commerce in Edo North and beyond.
According to Okpebholo, the market is designed to boost trade, improve business activities, and strengthen the state’s economy while providing modern facilities for traders and residents.
Responding to critics who questioned the administration’s pledge to secure 2.5 million votes for President Tinubu, the governor maintained that the achievements of his government would earn the support of the people.
“Many people wonder how we intend to secure the 2.5 million votes, but they overlook the numerous projects this administration is delivering for the benefit of Edo people. Those votes will come as a result of the visible development taking place across the state,” he said.
The inspection tour was attended by the Minister of Regional Development, Abubakar Momoh; former Edo State Governor and Senator representing Edo North, Adams Oshiomhole; Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Blessing Agbebaku; and other government officials.
Okpebholo commended the quality and pace of work on the project, noting that the facility is being constructed to meet modern standards.
“We are not just building another market; we are constructing a world-class commercial centre that will serve the people of Edo North, the entire state, and Nigerians who will patronise the market after its completion,” he said.
He explained that the market features multiple floors and a solid foundation, adding that extensive work had already been completed at the basement level to ensure durability and structural strength.
The governor also described the project as part of his administration’s commitment to rewarding the support of Edo residents for his government, the All Progressives Congress (APC), and President Bola Tinubu.
Speaking during the inspection, Minister of Regional Development Abubakar Momoh described the Jattu Market as a historic trading centre that has served the old Midwest region for decades.
He said the redevelopment would restore the market’s importance as a commercial hub while creating better opportunities for traders.
“This market will benefit the people of Edo North and the entire state. Goods are affordable here, and we appreciate President Bola Tinubu for providing the resources that enable governors to execute meaningful projects. We also commend Governor Okpebholo for prioritising the reconstruction of this important market,” Momoh stated.
Former Governor Adams Oshiomhole recalled his childhood experiences selling baskets in the market and described the reconstruction as an effort to preserve its historical significance while providing a safer and more modern environment for business activities.
He also defended the cost of the project, saying critics failed to appreciate the scale and quality of the construction.
“Anyone who carefully examines the volume of reinforced concrete and the level of engineering involved in each floor of this structure will understand that the investment is justified,” Oshiomhole said.
The Edo State Government stated that the Jattu Market project forms part of a broader initiative to modernise major markets across the state.
Other markets currently undergoing redevelopment include Oba Market in Benin City and the Ekpoma Modern Market, both of which are expected to provide improved facilities and a better trading environment for merchants.
