The family of the late Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate in the 2023 Ondo State election, Otunba Bamidele Akingboye, has called on the Lagos State Police Command to clarify conflicting reports regarding the autopsy conducted on the deceased.
In a statement, the family expressed concern over recent media reports quoting the late politician’s second wife, Mrs. Christianah Akingboye, as claiming to have access to the autopsy result. According to the family, this contradicts the information they received directly from the police during a meeting held on Friday, October 24, 2025.
They stated that during the meeting, the police informed them that both the autopsy report and investigation findings were still in police custody as inquiries into Akingboye’s death continued.
However, a publication on Saturday, October 25, 2025, quoted Mrs. Christianah Akingboye as saying she had obtained the report — a claim that has raised questions and caused concern among family members.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Pastor Akinyele Akingboye urged the police to investigate the development and caution anyone attempting to interfere with the ongoing probe. He also requested that the Commissioner of Police confirm whether the autopsy report remains officially with the command and if any third party lawfully accessed it.
The deceased’s eldest son, Samuel Akingboye, reaffirmed the family’s trust in the police investigation, noting that they had been assured the inquiry would be concluded soon. “As the police told us, the autopsy result is currently in their possession while they finalize their findings. We are waiting patiently for the official outcome,” he said.
Similarly, the late politician’s Personal Assistant and Media Adviser, Mr. Oyeniyi Iwakun, said he has been monitoring the investigation closely but would not make public comments until the police release their official report. He explained that he was in Okitipupa, Ondo State, when he received news of Akingboye’s passing and that the initial verified information confirmed the death occurred at his VGC residence in Lagos.
The family appealed to the Lagos State Police Command to conclude the investigation swiftly and release its findings publicly to dispel speculation and ensure transparency in the matter.
