Federal Ministry of Works Advises Motorists Ahead of Kara Bridge Repairs on Lagos–Ibadan Expressway

The Federal Ministry of Works has urged motorists and other road users to plan ahead and consider alternative routes due to scheduled repair works on the Kara Bridge along the outbound lane of the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.
The advisory comes following the ministry’s announcement on the planned replacement of damaged expansion joints on the bridge.
In a statement released on Saturday, the Federal Controller of Works in Ogun State, Engr. Olayiwola Komolafe, said the maintenance work is set to commence on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, and is expected to last for two weeks, concluding on March 24, 2026.
Motorists travelling from Ikorodu to Mowe, Sagamu, and Ibadan are advised to take alternative routes via Shimawa or Mosinmi. Those coming from Lagos Island are encouraged to use the Epe corridor through Ijebu-Ode to reach Sagamu, Ibadan, and Mowe.
“Motorists are reminded that a shorter route may not necessarily be the fastest. They should plan their journeys in advance, comply with traffic management directives, and drive cautiously around the work zone,” Komolafe stated.
The ministry also appealed to road users for patience during the repair period, adding: “The Federal Ministry of Works regrets any inconvenience this temporary partial closure may cause and appreciates the understanding and cooperation of the motoring public as the ministry continues its efforts to ensure the safety, durability, and stability of the nation’s road infrastructure.”
Earlier in February, the ministry had announced a six-week partial closure of the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway to carry out urgent repairs on expansion joints at Kara Bridge, Magboro Bridge, and Arepo–Punch Bridge. However, the work was suspended following heavy traffic congestion and public concerns, allowing time for a review of traffic management measures and improved public communication.
