In what many perceived to be a highly energized atmosphere in Nnewi on Saturday, frontline aspirant for the Nnewi North, Nnewi South, and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency seat, Ikebunwa Fidelis Lotanna, declared that he is the only aspirant in the ADC who can defeat APGA, APC, and others in his constituency. He made this statement, which has since generated widespread buzz across various social media platforms, during the official inauguration of a new political support structure within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), known as the Good Governance Initiative (GGI), in Nnewi on Saturday.
The event, which took place at the popular Anaedo Hall, attracted a large turnout of party faithful, supporters, and stakeholders from across the constituency. The GGI, described by Lotanna as the largest support group within the ADC in the area, is strategically designed to galvanize grassroots support and position the party for victory in the 2027 general elections.
During the inauguration, party members openly expressed strong confidence in Lotanna’s candidacy, praising his leadership qualities and commitment to the people. Many supporters contrasted his vision with what they described as the disappointing performance of the current representative over the past four years.
The Chairman of the occasion, Ibeokonkwo Michael, in his remarks, declared unwavering support for Lotanna’s ambition. He emphasized that stakeholders and party members are fully committed to ensuring that Lotanna secures the ADC ticket and ultimately emerges victorious in the general election, paving the way for what he described as effective and people-oriented representation in Abuja.
Findings from the event also revealed that Lotanna has already made significant investments in strengthening the party’s grassroots structure. Notably, he has reportedly rented, furnished, and fully equipped ten ADC ward offices across Nnewi North, while also providing financial support to ward chairmen to enhance party operations at the local level.
The event further witnessed the active participation of a prominent women’s group known as the Peaceful Ladies, who turned out in large numbers to show solidarity. The group offered prayers and expressed strong support for Lotanna’s ambition, reaffirming their commitment to his success at the polls.
In his address, Lotanna expressed deep appreciation to party members and supporters for their unwavering loyalty and encouragement. Reflecting on his personal journey, he recounted his humble beginnings and the challenges he overcame before achieving success. He assured the gathering that his life experiences have shaped his commitment to inclusive leadership and people-centered governance.
“I come from a humble background, and I will never forget where I started. You are the backbone of this movement. My mission is to champion policies that directly impact the lives of our people,” he stated.
Lotanna further asserted his confidence in his electoral strength, describing himself as the only candidate within the ADC capable of defeating both the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections. He urged party delegates and members to trust him with the party’s ticket, promising not only victory at the polls but also a new era of impactful and responsive representation.
Currently, the constituency is represented by Peter Uzokwe, who hails from Ozubulu in Ekwusigo Local Government Area. Lotanna, on the other hand, is from Nnewichi in Nnewi North Local Government Area and is seeking to unseat the incumbent in what is expected to be a keenly contested race.
