Governor Okpebholo Urges Unity, Prayers Against Insecurity as He Warns Against Criminal Control of Nigeria

Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has called on Nigerians to reject any attempt by individuals or groups to hold the country hostage for personal or political gain, stressing that Nigeria does not belong to kidnappers or violent actors.
He made the statement during a thanksgiving service at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral in Auchi, Edo State, on Sunday, November 9, 2025, and also during a visit to LoveWorld City, Christ Embassy, Benin City.
Addressing worshippers, the governor urged continuous prayers for peace, national stability, economic recovery, and effective governance. He specifically called on the congregation to intercede for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, asking for divine wisdom and strength to lead the country.
Governor Okpebholo encouraged religious leaders and citizens to join efforts in prayers against kidnapping, cultism, and other security challenges affecting the nation, expressing confidence that Nigeria would overcome its difficulties through collective action and faith.
During the service, officiating pastor Moses Olayemi led prayers for national leaders, the economy, and communities, while also commending the Edo State government for ongoing infrastructure and development projects.
Nigeria continues to face rising insecurity, with persistent cases of terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping despite ongoing security operations. Armed groups have increasingly targeted schools and rural communities, raising concerns over the safety of children and teachers.
Recent attacks in parts of Oyo and Borno States, including the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers, have further highlighted the severity of the crisis. In another incident in Ibadan, Oyo State, Mrs. Olaide Adegoke John-Paul, a relative of former Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu, and her twin sons were kidnapped before being reportedly rescued by security operatives.
