The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has shared a deeply personal account of how he handled expensive gifts during the early years of his ministry, revealing that he once sold a luxury limousine to support his pastors.
Pastor Adeboye gave the testimony during a recent thanksgiving service, recalling how an elderly woman unexpectedly gifted him a Mercedes Benz at a time when he was still relying on public transportation.
According to him, the gesture initially left him unsettled.
“I almost said, ‘Alakoba wo le leyi?’ I hope this woman is not trying to get me into trouble,” he recounted.
Unsure of what to do with the car, Pastor Adeboye said he parked it and avoided using it. However, his decision was later challenged in a dream, where he said God cautioned him against rejecting the woman’s generosity.
“Why are you robbing my daughter of her blessing? She sowed a seed, and you are not allowing the seed to germinate,” he quoted God as saying.
Following the instruction, he handed the vehicle to his late deputy, Pastor Abiodun. Although he was advised to keep and enjoy the gift, Pastor Adeboye insisted on giving it away.
He noted that shortly after, he received three more Mercedes Benz cars, an experience he described as astonishing and humbling.
While still pondering what to do with the additional vehicles, Pastor Adeboye said a man arrived at his residence around 2:00am with a rare six-door Mercedes limousine, explaining that God had instructed him to deliver it immediately.
“I said to God, ‘Even if I die and they put me in this car, I will wake up. Will you permit me to sell the car?’” he recalled.
After praying, Pastor Adeboye said he received divine approval to sell the luxury limousine.
“I sold it and used the money to buy motorcycles for my pastors,” he said, explaining that the decision was driven by his desire to support the work of the ministry rather than indulge in luxury.
The testimony drew strong reactions from the congregation, highlighting themes of sacrifice, obedience, and stewardship in Christian leadership.
