Israel’s military said its air defence systems were activated on Thursday following a series of missile launches from Iran, with emergency responders confirming that at least two people sustained minor injuries and several homes were damaged.
According to a spokesperson for Magen David Adom, the country’s national emergency service, the casualties were treated at the scene after missiles struck areas in central Israel. Structural damage was reported in parts of Kafr Qassem, where Mayor Haitham Taha stated that the destruction was caused by cluster munitions.
The Israeli military confirmed that its Home Front Command rescue teams were deployed to one of the impact sites in the region. In two statements issued about 20 minutes apart, the military reported detecting incoming missiles from Iran targeting Israeli territory.
“Defensive systems are operating to intercept the threat,” the military said, later announcing that residents across affected areas could leave their shelters after the immediate danger had passed.
Air raid sirens were triggered across central Israel, including Tel Aviv and parts of Jerusalem, as well as in Israeli settlements located in the occupied West Bank.
The latest strikes occurred more than 14 hours after an earlier alert of incoming Iranian missiles. Overnight, central Israel also came under rocket fire from Lebanon, where the Iran-backed group Hezbollah claimed responsibility for multiple attacks targeting Israeli military positions. Israeli media reports indicated that six rockets were successfully intercepted.
