Israel Intensifies Strikes in Southern and Eastern Lebanon, Targets Hezbollah Sites

Israel carried out multiple strikes across southern and eastern Lebanon on Thursday, hitting areas described as Hezbollah-linked positions, according to Lebanese state media reports.

Despite the November 2024 ceasefire aimed at ending more than a year of conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, cross-border violence has continued. Israeli troops also remain stationed in five locations in southern Lebanon considered strategically important by the Israeli military.

Lebanon’s state news agency reported strikes on mountainous zones in both regions, while the Israeli military confirmed it targeted what it described as “terror infrastructure sites” connected to Hezbollah. These included a facility identified by Israel as a military compound used for training members of the group.

In a separate statement, the military said its forces also targeted a Hezbollah member in the Taybeh area of southern Lebanon.

The renewed hostilities come ahead of a scheduled meeting on Friday by the ceasefire monitoring committee, which includes representatives from the United States and France.

Tensions remain high, with two people reported killed in Israeli strikes on Tuesday, one of them approximately 30 kilometres south of Beirut.

Since the ceasefire took effect, around 340 people have been killed in Lebanon as a result of Israeli attacks, according to the latest figures from the Lebanese health ministry.
