The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has extended the 2025 admissions deadline for public universities from Friday, October 31, 2025, to Monday, November 17, 2025.
The extension was announced in a statement by JAMB’s Public Communication Adviser, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, who explained that the decision followed certain pressing circumstances affecting some institutions’ ability to conclude their admission processes on time.
JAMB recalled that during the 2025 Policy Meeting on Admissions held on July 18, 2025, under the chairmanship of the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, October 31 had originally been set as the deadline for all public universities to wrap up their admissions.
According to the Board, the schedule was designed to give room for other categories of tertiary institutions — including private universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, and innovation enterprise institutions — to finalise their respective admissions before the overall national deadline of December 31, 2025.
While commending universities that diligently worked to meet the initial date, JAMB noted that the extension became unavoidable for two major reasons.
The first was an appeal from the Committee of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (AVCNU), following disruptions caused by a court injunction that temporarily halted the 2025/2026 admission process — an order that was only vacated on October 28, 2025. The second reason was the recent accreditation of 229 new academic programmes across 37 universities by the National Universities Commission (NUC) on October 29, 2025, which required fresh scheduling of admissions into the newly approved courses.
“In light of these developments, and to ensure fairness and inclusiveness, the Board hereby extends the deadline for the completion of 2025 public university admissions to Monday, November 17, 2025,” the statement read.
JAMB stressed that the new date is final and binding on all institutions, urging full compliance.
Dr. Benjamin expressed appreciation to universities for their cooperation and dedication toward meeting the initial timeline and reaffirmed JAMB’s commitment to maintaining a transparent, credible, and efficient admission process that aligns with national education objectives while respecting institutional autonomy.
