The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has suspended the selection of examination towns for candidates registering for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) in Ekiti State.
The development was disclosed on Tuesday in Abuja by JAMB’s spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, who explained that the decision was taken to allow the board to restructure examination towns within the state.
According to him, the move is aimed at ensuring that candidates are assigned examination centres closer to their locations, thereby reducing transportation difficulties on examination days.
Benjamin noted that although candidates are usually permitted to choose examination towns nearest to them, the registration process for the 2026 UTME commenced before certain structural irregularities were identified in the configuration of examination towns in Ekiti State.
He said the anomalies made it necessary for the board to carry out urgent adjustments in the interest of candidates, leading to the temporary suspension of examination town selection in the state.
“As a result, candidates registering in Ekiti State will, for now, be unable to select any examination town until the adjustment process is completed,” he said.
Benjamin assured candidates that the restructuring exercise would be concluded shortly and expressed regret over any inconvenience the suspension may cause during the ongoing registration period.
He added that JAMB consistently monitors its operations and takes prompt action to address challenges encountered by candidates.
The spokesperson reaffirmed the board’s commitment to improving its processes and ensuring that all candidates are treated fairly, with dignity and respect throughout the examination process.
