Jos Trader Returns ₦1 Million Mistakenly Packed with Purchased Goods

In a remarkable display of honesty and integrity, a small-scale trader in Jos, Mrs. Sarah Luka, has returned ₦1,000,000 that was mistakenly included in the goods she purchased from a wholesaler.
Mrs. Luka, who runs a small business in the Lamingo area of Jos, visited Terminus Market on Saturday to buy leather bags from a wholesaler, Mr. Abubakar Dola.
According to Mr. Dola, he had kept the sum of ₦1 million inside a polythene bag, with plans to send it to a Point of Sale (POS) operator for transfer.
However, while packaging the leather bags worth ₦6,000 for Mrs. Luka, he mistakenly included the polythene bag containing the cash among the goods.
Three days later, on Monday, Mrs. Luka returned to Mr. Dola’s shop and handed over the entire ₦1 million.
Speaking with our correspondent, Mrs. Luka, a Christian, said she returned the money immediately because it was clearly a mistake.
“I am a poor businesswoman. I know what it means to suffer loss,” she said.
“If I put that kind of money that is not mine into my business, I believe God would punish me.”
When asked what motivated her action, she simply said, “Because the money was included by mistake and it is not mine.”
Mr. Abubakar Dola, who operates from Terminus Market, expressed deep gratitude and relief over the rare act of honesty.
