The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has expressed concern over the low turnout of prospective candidates for the 2024 Direct Entry (DE) registration, despite extending the registration period and expanding the number of registration centers to accommodate more candidates.
In addition, JAMB has announced a change in the schedule for the 2024 Supplementary Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
Originally set to take place on June 22, 2024, the examination will now be conducted over two days, on Friday, June 21, and Saturday, June 22, 2024.
JAMB’s spokesperson, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, revealed this information in a statement released to the press on Wednesday in Abuja.
Dr. Benjamin noted that to ensure all interested candidates could register for the 2024 Direct Entry (DE) exercise, JAMB had authorized additional registration points.
These supplementary centers, apart from the Professional Registration Centres (PRCs) operated by JAMB, were set up in Lagos, Kwara, Osun, and Osun States.
The aim was to provide every eligible candidate with the opportunity to register for the DE. However, Dr. Benjamin reported that the field data showed the expansion was unnecessary.
Registration centers in locations like JKK Lagos, JAMB PRC, Ikoyi, and Ogba, Ikeja, Lagos, experienced very low turnout, suggesting that most prospective DE candidates had already registered.
He highlighted that in some of the additional registration centers, fewer than ten candidates showed up for registration, despite these centers having a daily capacity of over 100 candidates.
Nevertheless, Dr. Benjamin urged eligible candidates who still wish to register for the 2024 DE to take advantage of this opportunity, as no further extensions will be granted.
He emphasized that the public should be aware of these additional registration points and the low turnout at these facilities, warning that JAMB will not consider any further extension requests once the registration closes on Monday, June 17, 2024.
Regarding the 2024 Supplementary UTME, Dr. Benjamin stated that the exam will now be held over two days, June 21 and June 22, 2024.
This change was made possible due to the availability of June 21, released by another examination body.
Candidates who have already printed their supplementary UTME notification slips with the date of June 21, 2024, need not worry, as it is within the newly allocated examination period.
