The Kwankwasiyya Movement has announced that its leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, will formally join the African Democratic Congress (ADC), marking a significant development in Nigeria’s political landscape.
According to a statement released by the movement, Kwankwaso is scheduled to officially register with the ADC on Monday, March 30, 2026. The event will take place at his residence in Gidan Kwankwasiyya, located on Miller Road in Kano, at 12 p.m.
The announcement has sparked reactions across political circles, as the Kwankwasiyya Movement directed its members nationwide to immediately begin registration with the ADC at their respective ward, local government, and state levels.
Spokesperson of the movement, Habibu Sale Mohammed, explained that the decision was driven by a commitment to democratic ideals and inclusive governance.
He noted that the movement has consistently prioritized the progress of both Kano State and Nigeria, adding that the transition to the ADC is intended to strengthen democratic values and promote leadership that reflects the people’s interests.
Mohammed emphasized that the move represents a collective decision aligned with the aspirations of supporters, stressing the importance of safeguarding democracy and respecting the will of the জনগ. He urged members not only to join the ADC but also to actively engage in party activities and contribute to its growth at all levels.
The Kwankwasiyya Movement, which enjoys considerable support particularly in Kano State, has remained closely tied to Kwankwaso’s political influence over the years. His decision to align with the ADC signals a notable shift that could reshape existing political alliances.
While the broader implications of the move are still unfolding, political observers believe it may influence future electoral dynamics and alter the balance of power within Nigeria’s political space.
Reaffirming the movement’s direction, Mohammed stated that its members remain united and committed to advancing a people-focused agenda, describing the development as the beginning of a new phase in their political journey.
