Mimiko Dumps PDP, Officially Joins APC, Backs Tinubu’s 2027 Re-Election Bid

Former Ondo State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko, on Thursday officially joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), ending his association with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Mimiko, who served as governor of Ondo State between 2009 and 2017, had resigned from the PDP in April before formally announcing his move to the APC.
The declaration took place at the APC Ward 7 Secretariat in Ondo West Local Government Area of the state, where party members and supporters gathered to receive the former governor into the party.
Addressing party faithful at the event, Mimiko explained that his decision to join the APC was motivated by his desire to contribute more actively to the socio-economic and political growth of the country. He also pledged support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his expected re-election campaign ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The former governor acknowledged the economic difficulties currently facing Nigerians but expressed confidence in the direction of the present administration. According to him, despite current challenges, the policies and programmes introduced by the Tinubu administration are creating a foundation for long-term national development and progress.
Welcoming Mimiko into the APC, Ondo State APC Chairman, Kolawole Babatunde, described the development as a significant boost for the party in the state.
Babatunde commended Mimiko for his leadership qualities and contributions to the development of Ondo State and the nation, noting that both the party and the state government were pleased to receive him into their fold.
The former governor’s move is expected to reshape political dynamics in Ondo State ahead of future electoral contests, particularly as political realignments continue across the country in preparation for the 2027 elections.
