NCAA Pledges Stronger Passenger Protection, Tighter Visa Checks

The Director General of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Chris Najomo, has reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to enhancing passenger protection and strengthening visa verification procedures to promote safer and more accountable air travel.
Najomo made this known while receiving a delegation led by Adenike Macaulay, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of a travel company, during a courtesy visit to the Authority’s headquarters in Abuja. He explained that although the NCAA is focused on improving the ease of doing business within the aviation industry, it will not relax regulatory standards or compromise the rights of passengers.
Also speaking, the NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, stressed that the Authority remains determined to fully enforce consumer protection regulations. He noted that airlines and other service providers are required to address passenger complaints and process refunds within the stipulated 14-day period. According to him, this move is in line with the aviation reform agenda of the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, aimed at improving accountability and service quality across the sector.
In his remarks, the Director of Air Transport Regulation, Olayinka Babaoye-Iriobe, praised the travel company for its role in supporting the growth of the aviation industry. He encouraged continued partnership and cooperation to help build a stronger, more transparent, and resilient aviation system.
Earlier, the Managing Director, Adenike Macaulay, expressed concerns over the growing number of passengers travelling without valid visas and being denied entry at their destinations. She explained that such incidents create operational difficulties and financial losses for travel service providers. Macaulay called for improved collaboration and data sharing with the NCAA to address the issue and reaffirmed her company’s commitment to complying fully with regulatory requirements and delivering better services to passengers.
