Nigeria’s Leadership in ECOWAS Strengthening Stability in West Africa — APC

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has applauded President Bola Tinubu for what it describes as Nigeria’s firm and impactful leadership within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

In a statement on Thursday, APC spokesman Seye Oladejo said Nigeria has continued to demonstrate strong regional influence at a time when West Africa is grappling with political tensions, security challenges, and economic instability.

Oladejo noted that President Tinubu’s engagement in ECOWAS has boosted diplomatic efforts and encouraged stability across the sub-region. He stressed that Nigeria remains resolute in defending democratic governance and opposing unconstitutional change of government in West African states.

He explained that the President’s interventions have reopened critical dialogue channels in crisis-prone nations, helping to ease tensions and promote peaceful resolutions.

According to Oladejo, Nigeria is also leading renewed security cooperation through improved counterterrorism operations, intelligence sharing, and joint military efforts with regional partners. These collaborations, he said, are strengthening responses to terrorism, piracy, and transborder crime.

He further highlighted the enhanced capacity of the ECOWAS Standby Force under Tinubu’s chairmanship, adding that Nigeria is mobilising greater international support to tackle emerging threats in the Sahel region.

Oladejo noted that Nigeria’s foreign policy direction now reflects strategic diplomacy, responsibility, and a commitment to regional development. He added that the President is advancing economic integration, energy partnerships, and new trade opportunities within West Africa.

He urged citizens to remain confident in the country’s expanding regional influence, saying Nigeria is shaping major decisions on the continent through steady leadership and consistent engagement.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that President Tinubu recently secured Senate approval for the deployment of Nigerian troops to the Republic of Benin following a foiled coup attempt. The deployment, according to the President, followed consultations with the National Defence Council and was made in response to Benin’s request for a peace enforcement mission.
