Northeast Youth Coalition Commends Tinubu for Service Chiefs’ Removal, Seeks Review of NSA’s Office

The Coalition of Northeast Youth Group Leaders has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his decisive move to remove Nigeria’s Service Chiefs, describing it as a courageous and historic action toward strengthening the nation’s security system. However, the group insisted that the ongoing reforms in the security sector would remain incomplete without a thorough review of the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA).

In a statement signed by its Chairman, Comrade Mohammed Grema Adamu, the coalition urged President Tinubu to extend his reform efforts to include a comprehensive audit of the NSA’s structure, coordination framework, and operational processes. The group emphasized that such a review is vital to ensuring accountability, transparency, and efficiency within Nigeria’s overall security architecture.

“We commend President Tinubu for the courageous and decisive step of relieving the Service Chiefs of their duties. This is not just an administrative reshuffle but a historic milestone in the reform of Nigeria’s military leadership — a clear declaration against insecurity and threats to national stability,” the statement read.

The coalition lauded the President’s decision as the kind of leadership Nigerians have long awaited, one that demonstrates resolve in defending the Republic. Nonetheless, it maintained that genuine reform must also scrutinize all offices connected to national security, especially that of the NSA.

“We therefore call for a review of the performance, structure, and coordination mechanisms under the NSA to ensure that the reforms achieve their intended results. Our call is not punitive but a patriotic demand for reform, transparency, and institutional integrity,” the group stated.

The coalition further argued that regular performance assessments of national security institutions are essential to sustaining public trust and operational effectiveness. It called for a detailed audit of the NSA’s recent operations, decisions, and coordination efforts to identify areas needing improvement while ensuring that any corrective actions align with due process and national interest.

Citing Section 1(2) of the 1999 Constitution, the group reminded that no individual or group should assume control of any part of Nigeria’s government outside constitutional provisions.

“Mr. President has shown courage, resolve, and leadership in this delicate period of our national life. Nigerians now look to him to consolidate these efforts, cleanse the system of inefficiency, and rebuild our national security apparatus on the pillars of trust, professionalism, and constitutional loyalty,” the statement added.

The coalition also called for stronger collaboration between the Presidency and civil society organizations, especially in the North-East, to ensure that citizens’ perspectives contribute meaningfully to the reform process.

However, the group warned that it would mobilize peaceful demonstrations if there was no tangible response or engagement within seven days, emphasizing that its call was rooted in the constitutional right to demand accountability and good governance.

“Our collective security and democratic stability depend on transparency and reform. Let us rally behind the President’s vision of a secure, united, and prosperous Nigeria — one where no office or institution is beyond scrutiny or the rule of law,” the coalition concluded.
