Obama Lists Burna Boy, Olamide Among Top Music Picks of 2025

Former United States President Barack Obama has shared his annual selection of favourite books, films and songs, a tradition he started during his time in the White House.

The 2025 list, released on Thursday, includes Nigerian Afrobeats stars Burna Boy and Olamide among the standout acts featured in his music choices for the year.

In a post on his X handle, Obama wrote: “As 2025 comes to a close, I’m continuing a tradition that I started during my time in the White House: sharing my annual lists of favorite books, movies, and music. I hope you find something new to enjoy.”

Burna Boy’s track ‘Tatata’ featuring Travis Scott made the list, alongside Olamide’s ‘99’ featuring Daecolm, Seyi Vibez, Asake and Young Jonn. British-Nigerian artist Obongjayar also appeared on the list with his song ‘Not In Surrender,’ signalling the expanding global influence of African music.

Other international stars featured include Kendrick Lamar, SZA, Lady Gaga, Gunna, and Canadian rapper Drake, rounding off what has become one of the most anticipated music lists each year.
