Omo-Agege Resigns from APC, Cites Inability to Defend Delta Central Interests

Former Deputy President of the Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing recent developments within the party in Delta State.
In a statement released by his Media Adviser, Sunday Areh, the former lawmaker said his decision followed extensive consultations with his political associates and supporters.
Omo-Agege explained that his political ambitions and the interests of the people of Delta Central would be better pursued outside the ruling party, stressing that he could no longer remain in a political environment where he was unable to effectively represent and advance the concerns of his constituents.
The former senator, however, expressed gratitude to the APC for the opportunity to serve as Deputy President of the 9th Senate, while wishing the party success in its future engagements.
He also reaffirmed his commitment to the growth and development of Delta Central, Delta State, and Nigeria, pledging to continue pursuing those goals outside the APC.
According to the statement dated May 22, 2026, the resignation takes immediate effect.
Omo-Agege disclosed that he communicated his decision in a letter addressed to the Chairman of Orogun Ward 2 in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
“After reviewing recent developments within the APC in Delta State and consulting with my associates and supporters, it is clear that my political objectives and those of my constituents are better served outside the party,” he stated.
“I will not remain a sitting duck in a party where I cannot advance the interests of Delta Central, Delta State and Nigeria,” he added.
The former Deputy Senate President further requested that his name be removed from all APC membership records, registers, and official communication platforms.
He maintained that his priority remains effective representation and sustainable development for the people of Delta Central and Delta State.
