Oyedepo Urges Covenant University Fresh Students to Embrace Discipline, Shun Peer Pressure

The Chancellor of Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State, Dr David Oyedepo, has advised newly admitted students of the institution to embrace discipline and resist peer pressure as key steps toward achieving success in life.
Oyedepo gave the charge on Friday during the university’s 24th Matriculation Ceremony held at the institution’s campus in Ota.
According to him, discipline may be difficult in the present, but its long-term rewards are invaluable, noting that the pain of regret is far worse than the pain of discipline.
“Pay today and play tomorrow, or play today and pay tomorrow. No one will be more accomplished in his or her pursuit than the disciplined individual,” he said.
He further urged the students to take their academic work seriously, stressing that the value of a person’s time ultimately defines the value of their life.
Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Timothy Anake, reaffirmed Covenant University’s commitment to continuous investment in world-class infrastructure to guarantee a seamless and effective learning environment.
Anake also called on the fresh students to uphold the institution’s seven core values, which he listed as spirituality, possibility mentality, capacity building, integrity, responsibility, diligence and sacrifice.
In her remarks, the Pro-Chancellor of the university emphasised that discipline remains the foundation of greatness, noting that Covenant University places strong emphasis on character development.
According to her, talent without good character can become a liability, urging students to pursue their academic programmes with first-class character.
She added that higher education is a journey that requires focus, dedication and discipline for students to reach their destinations successfully and in good standing.
A total of 3,070 students, made up of 2,440 undergraduates and 630 postgraduates, were formally admitted into the university for the 2025/2026 academic session during the ceremony.
