IBADAN — The Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly condemned the abduction of Mrs. Busayo Adelabu John-Paul, the sister of former Minister of Power and APC chieftain, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, along with her 12-year-old twin sons, describing the incident as another disturbing indication of the growing insecurity across the state.
The party called on Governor Seyi Makinde to intensify collaboration with security agencies and relevant stakeholders to tackle the increasing wave of kidnappings and violent crimes, stressing the need to restore public confidence in the state’s security framework.
Mrs. John-Paul and her children were reportedly kidnapped on Wednesday morning in the Elewura–Challenge area of Ibadan by suspected gunmen.
According to available reports, the attackers allegedly trailed the vehicle conveying the victims from their residence before intercepting it around 7:30 a.m. and forcefully whisking them away to an unknown destination.
Reacting to the incident in a statement issued in Ibadan by its Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, the APC expressed deep concern over what it described as the worsening security situation in Oyo State.
The opposition party noted that the latest abduction occurred at a time when residents were already unsettled by several unresolved kidnapping cases across the state.
Among the incidents highlighted by the APC were the continued captivity of schoolchildren and teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area, as well as the kidnapping of two staff members of the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria (CRIN) in the Idi-Ayunre area of Oluyole Local Government Area.
The party urged authorities to urgently reassess the state’s security architecture, identify existing weaknesses, and implement effective measures to prevent further attacks on residents.
It also called for the immediate rescue and safe return of all victims currently in captivity, including the abducted schoolchildren and teachers in Oriire, the CRIN personnel, Mrs. John-Paul, and her twin sons.
The APC further stressed the importance of coordinated efforts between government officials, security agencies, community leaders, and other stakeholders to combat the rising trend of kidnappings and criminal activities across Oyo State.
According to the party, the increasing frequency of abductions and violent attacks has become a major source of concern for residents and requires swift, decisive, and sustained intervention to protect lives and property.
The party maintained that urgent action is needed to curb insecurity and restore a sense of safety and stability throughout the state.
