The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by Abdulraman Mohammed, is set to begin the screening process for presidential and governorship aspirants seeking the party’s ticket for the 2027 general elections.
The development was announced in a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday by the party’s National Director of Publicity, Chinwe Nnorom, on behalf of the National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed.
According to the party, the screening of governorship aspirants is scheduled to begin at noon at the PDP National Secretariat Annex, Legacy House, Maitama, Abuja, while presidential aspirants will be screened from 2 p.m. at the same venue.
The presidential screening committee will be chaired by former Abia State governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, with Hassan Sokodobo serving as secretary.
Other members of the committee include Abba Isawa, George Sekibo, Sodipo Semiu, Mrs. Chinelo Chidebelu, Nasiru Mohammed, Zainab Kure, and Lindsey Sora.
For the governorship screening committee, former Kaduna State governor Ahmed Makarfi will serve as chairman, while George Ariolu has been appointed secretary.
Other members include Dr. Ibrahim Umar, Prof. Aisha Madawaki, Tajudeen Yusuf, Dr. Abdulganiyu Oloyin, Babangida Modibbo, Alhaji Buba Biri, Olaniyi Ogungbuji, Mike Ahumibe, Gabriel Igboko, Pastor Tony Effiong, and Mrs. Precious Ojelabi.
Meanwhile, the party’s interim National Working Committee, led by Tanimu Turaki, recently announced an extension for the purchase of nomination and expression of interest forms for the 2027 elections.
The extension, contained in a public notice jointly signed by National Publicity Secretary Ini Ememobong and National Organising Secretary Theophilus Shan, shifted the deadline for purchasing forms for all elective positions to May 15.
The party also moved the final submission date for completed forms to May 18, while aspirants are expected to undergo screening on May 19.
According to the interim NWC, the extension followed appeals from stakeholders and aspirants across the country.
The party further clarified that aspirants seeking National and State Assembly positions would be screened within their respective states, while governorship and presidential hopefuls would complete their screening processes in Abuja.
The committee added that all other previously announced activities and timelines remain unchanged.
