The Yobe State Police Command has commenced a thorough investigation into the mysterious death of a 45-year-old woman, identified as Falmata Abubakar, whose body was found near the fence of a university in Gashua.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, disclosed this while briefing newsmen on Saturday in Damaturu.
According to Abdulkarim, the incident was first reported to the police on Friday by one Yusuf Sarkin Baka, a resident of Sabon Daula Ward in Bade Local Government Area.
He explained that the deceased, a resident of Abasha, Sarkin Hausawa Ward, Gashua, was discovered lifeless near the university fence, dressed in a black hijab. Police officers from the Gashua Division promptly arrived at the scene and evacuated the body to the Specialist Hospital, Gashua, where a medical doctor confirmed her death.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the woman had been transported in a vehicle and dumped at the scene, located about two kilometres from her home.
The PPRO further stated that the corpse was released to the family for burial after an autopsy was conducted in accordance with Islamic rites.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ado, has assured residents of a comprehensive and professional investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death. He urged members of the public to remain calm and to cooperate with the police by providing useful information that could aid the investigation.
Abdulkarim reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property while ensuring peace and security across the state.
