Police Foil Truck Hijack in Ogun, Recover Stolen Vehicle and Fake Rifle

The Ogun State Police Command has foiled a truck hijacking operation in Ijebu Imushin, located in Ijebu East Local Government Area, recovering a stolen DAF truck loaded with motor spare parts and a wooden-fabricated rifle allegedly used by the suspects.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday when armed hoodlums reportedly intercepted the truck around the Oke-Ado area of Ijebu North Local Government Area and forcefully dispossessed the driver of the vehicle.
According to the spokesperson of the Ogun State Police Command, DSP Oluseyi Babasẹyi, the truck driver immediately raised an alarm after the attackers seized the vehicle.
He explained that detectives attached to the Ijebu Imushin Division, in collaboration with highway patrol officers, quickly mobilised to the area following the distress report.
The swift response by the police reportedly mounted pressure on the suspects, forcing them to abandon the truck and flee the scene before they could escape with the vehicle and its contents.
Babaseyi said the prompt intervention of the operatives successfully disrupted the criminal operation and prevented the loss of valuable goods.
He also disclosed that the truck driver sustained a minor injury on his right ankle during the attack and received immediate medical attention.
During a search conducted on the recovered truck, police operatives discovered a wooden-fabricated rifle wrapped with black tape, which was allegedly used by the suspects to intimidate the driver during the hijacking attempt.
The police spokesperson added that investigations are ongoing, while efforts have been intensified to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects for prosecution.
