Pope Leo XIV on Saturday received the second group of Catholic Bishops from Nigeria during their Ad Limina Apostolorum visit to Rome.
The Ad Limina Apostolorum pilgrimage is a longstanding tradition in which Catholic bishops travel to the Vatican to meet the Pope and provide reports on the pastoral activities, challenges, and progress within their dioceses.
This visit followed the recent Nigerian bishops’ conference, where pressing issues affecting the Church in Nigeria were discussed. During the meeting, a bishop was seen presenting gifts to Pope Leo XIV in a video shared on social media by the Vatican.
Earlier, on March 6, a first group of 37 Nigerian bishops had met with the Pope. The second group, which visited on Saturday, consisted of 35 bishops.
Pope Leo XIV, who was elected on May 8, 2025, and inaugurated on May 18, 2025, is expected to make his first apostolic journey to Africa in April, with planned visits to Algeria, Cameroon, Angola, and Equatorial Guinea.
