Rivers Crisis: APC Beke Faction Demands Sack of National Spokesman Felix Morka

The political crisis in Rivers State has begun to deepen internal cracks within the All Progressives Congress (APC), as the Chief Emeka Beke-led faction has called for the immediate removal of the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka.
The faction accused Morka of making derogatory and misleading comments concerning its position on the ongoing impeachment process against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu, over allegations of gross misconduct by the Rivers State House of Assembly.
Speaking through the party’s Rivers State Publicity Secretary, Darlington Nwauju, the faction faulted Morka’s remarks during a media interview in which he reportedly questioned the legitimacy of the Emeka Beke-led executive in the state.
Nwauju recalled that the faction had earlier urged the Chief Judge of Rivers State, Justice Simeon Amadi, to comply with a subsisting High Court order restraining him from receiving or acting on any correspondence from the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, or any other legislative officer, regarding the constitution of a seven-man investigative panel against the governor.
Morka was quoted as saying that Nwauju “used to be an official of the old executive council” and expressed doubt over his membership of the current state executive, a statement the Beke faction described as a denial of its lawful existence.
Addressing journalists at a press conference in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, Nwauju accused the national spokesman of undermining court rulings that affirmed the legitimacy of the October 16, 2021 APC state executives in Rivers State.
He cited Suit No. PHC/3592/CS/2023 (Sam Sam Etetegwung vs APC) and Suit No. PHC/3859/CS/2024 (OkwuJoe Brown Ndke vs APC), which nullified the purported dissolution of the elected executives and voided the congress held in November 2023 that sought to replace them.
According to him, the judgments confirmed the continued existence of the executives elected in 2021, giving the Beke-led faction the legal standing to speak for the party in the state.
“Mr Morka has lost the moral right to continue as a national officer of our great party, having chosen to go on national television to promote a partisan interpretation of subsisting court judgments on the leadership question in Rivers APC,” Nwauju said.
He warned that such comments were dangerous and capable of undermining the party’s chances of mobilising effectively and winning elections in Rivers State.
Nwauju added that Morka ought to have exercised restraint rather than, in his words, “using a media interview to launder the image of a non-party member at the expense of one of the party’s governors, who is the undisputed leader of the APC in Rivers State.”
Describing Morka’s comments as personal opinions that do not reflect the position of the APC National Working Committee, Nwauju said the statements raised serious questions about the spokesman’s loyalty to the party.
“We have therefore lost confidence in Mr Felix Morka and hereby demand his immediate resignation from office,” he declared.
He further likened Morka’s attitude to that of the APC South-South National Vice Chairman, Victor Giadom, whom he accused of previously referring to the Rivers State governor as a “so-called” governor.
The crisis within the Rivers APC continues to fuel tension as rival factions trade accusations amid the broader political developments in the state.
