Rivers Crisis: Tinubu Unlikely to Sacrifice Wike for Fubara — Fayose

Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, has stated that President Bola Tinubu is unlikely to sacrifice Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, in favor of Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, amid the ongoing political tensions in Rivers State.
In an exclusive interview with Arise Television on Tuesday, Fayose addressed the power struggle between Fubara and his predecessor, Wike, which continues to create political instability in the state.
Fayose emphasized that Wike holds greater political significance for President Tinubu than Fubara, arguing that the President has little reason to abandon the former Rivers governor.
“The Tinubu I know would not discard a Wike for a Fubara. Wike supported President Tinubu from Rivers,” Fayose said.
He highlighted Wike’s current role as FCT minister, praising his performance and his impact on electoral successes for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“Wike is delivering in Abuja; things have never been better. Even a blind person cannot deny this,” Fayose said. “The APC won the local government elections in Rivers thanks to Wike’s influence. The upcoming local government elections in Abuja will also be won by the APC. What more could the President want from Wike?”
Regarding reports that Governor Fubara sought President Tinubu’s intervention in France, Fayose interpreted this as a sign of political arrogance.
“If Governor Fubara traveled to meet the President, it shows he needs help. When you refuse to humble yourself and seek peace, you end up running in circles. What he’s after is likely personal gain,” Fayose remarked.
On the internal issues within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Fayose dismissed suggestions that President Tinubu is responsible for the party’s struggles.
“The problems in the PDP are not Asiwaju’s fault,” he said. “A failure at home should not be blamed on a neighbor.”
Fayose added, “The PDP is facing internal conflict caused by itself. It is a divided house, and human nature dictates survival of the fittest.”
