Senate Declares Dr. Bernard Doro as Minister of the Federal Republic

The Senate has confirmed Dr. Bernard Doro as a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria after a brief screening session that lasted less than 30 minutes.

Doro, who becomes the third ministerial nominee from Plateau State in the current administration, used the opportunity to outline his plan for promoting an inclusive humanitarian ecosystem across the country.

He pledged to build a system guided by principles of impartiality, inclusiveness, and independence in addressing humanitarian challenges.

During the screening, lawmakers commended his qualifications and leadership capacity. After a few questions, they unanimously asked him to “take a bow and go,” signaling their approval.

President Bola Tinubu had earlier written to the Senate, requesting Doro’s screening and confirmation as minister representing Plateau State. The letter, read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, cited Section 147 (2) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) as the legal basis for the nomination.

Tinubu also urged the Senate to give the request swift consideration. Akpabio subsequently referred the nomination to the Committee of the Whole, which later confirmed Doro’s appointment.

Dr. Doro’s nomination came following the appointment of Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, the former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, as the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman in July.
