Vice President Kashim Shettima has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to restoring peace and security across the country, assuring Nigerians that President Bola Tinubu remains determined to secure the safe return of schoolchildren and other citizens abducted by criminal elements.
Shettima gave the assurance in Abuja on Friday shortly after a special Jumma’a prayer held at the National Mosque to commemorate this year’s Democracy Day celebration.
Speaking on the nation’s security challenges, the Vice President said the Tinubu administration remains steadfast in its efforts to tackle insecurity and ensure lasting peace throughout the country.
“I want to assure Nigerians of President Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to restoring peace and stability in the nation. No matter how long the night is, it must give way to the light of dawn. Stormy as the weather may be, it will not rain forever. The government remains irrevocably committed to restoring peace and stability in the nation,” he said.
His remarks come in the wake of recent abductions involving schoolchildren and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State. In response to the growing security concerns, President Tinubu recently approved the recruitment of 1,000 forest guards as part of efforts to strengthen security operations and curb criminal activities in forested areas often used as hideouts by kidnappers and other armed groups.
Shettima called on Nigerians to continue praying for the nation, stressing that collective support and faith are essential in overcoming the country’s security challenges.
He assured citizens that the administration is working tirelessly to improve security and create an environment where people can live and conduct their activities without fear.
The Vice President also paid tribute to the nation’s democratic heroes, acknowledging the sacrifices made by past leaders and pro-democracy activists whose efforts laid the foundation for the democratic system enjoyed by Nigerians today.
He urged citizens to remain united and focus on the values that bind the country together, noting that national unity remains crucial to achieving peace, stability, and sustainable development.
According to him, the bonds that unite Nigerians are stronger than the differences that divide them, and with collective effort, the country will overcome its current challenges and emerge stronger.
