Popular Nigerian TikTok content creator, Habeeb Hamzat, widely known as Peller, has alleged that he spent nearly four days in police detention without food or access to a bath following his arrest by operatives of the Lagos State Police Command.
The 21-year-old social media personality made the claims in a series of posts shared on his Snapchat account shortly after regaining his freedom on Tuesday.
According to Peller, the experience was the most difficult he had ever faced, describing the detention as physically and emotionally exhausting.
“I am ugly now; I can’t show my face yet. I slept in a cell for almost four days. It has never happened to me before in my life,” he wrote.
He also recounted his interaction with other inmates, saying they jokingly referred to him as their “001” upon his arrival in the cell.
“As they put me in a cell, people in the cell said, ‘You are our 001 now.’ Omo, I burst out laughing once. I did not talk with anybody till I came out. 001 that you gave water beans,” he stated.
Peller further alleged that he was denied basic necessities throughout his detention, claiming he neither ate nor bathed during the period.
“I did not eat for four good days; I took no bath,” he alleged.
Peller and his associate, Bello Oladipo, were arrested along the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road over allegations of driving a vehicle with tinted windows and without a registration number plate.
The pair were later arraigned before a Lagos Magistrate Court on Monday on a three-count charge bordering on allegedly resisting arrest, obstructing police officers in the discharge of their lawful duties, as well as threatening and recording police officers during an official operation.
Following their arraignment, the court granted Peller bail in the sum of ₦500,000, pending further proceedings.
The Lagos State Police Command has not publicly responded to Peller’s allegations regarding the conditions of his detention. The case is expected to continue in court.
