President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed heartfelt condolences to renowned Nigerian author, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, her husband, Dr. Ivara Esege, and their family following the death of their son, Nkanu Nnamdi Esege.
In a statement personally signed on Thursday, the President described the death of a child as one of the most painful experiences any parent can face, noting that such a loss leaves a deep and lasting impact.
“With a deep sense of grief, I condole with Ms. Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, her husband, Dr. Ivara Esege, and the entire family on the passing of their son, Nkanu Nnamdi,” Tinubu said.
Drawing from personal experience, the President said no form of grief compares to the pain of losing a child, adding that he deeply sympathises with the family during this difficult period.
“As a parent who has also suffered the loss of a loved one, I understand that no grief is as devastating as losing a child. I empathise with the family and share in their sorrow at this painful time,” he stated.
President Tinubu also acknowledged Adichie’s global influence, describing her as a literary icon whose works have inspired, educated, and touched the lives of people across the world.
He offered prayers for strength and comfort for the bereaved family, urging them to find solace in faith as they mourn their loss.
“I pray that she and her family find strength and comfort in the Almighty during this trying moment. My thoughts and prayers are with the family,” the President added
