ABUJA — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sadness over the boat accident in Gorau Community, Goronyo Local Government Area of Sokoto State, which reportedly claimed several lives and left others missing.
The President described the incident as a tragic loss and extended his condolences to the families of those who died, as well as the government and people of Sokoto State.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu expressed sympathy with the bereaved families and prayed for strength for those affected by the tragedy.
“The news of this boat mishap deeply saddens me. My thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families during this difficult time,” the President said.
He added that he prayed for the deceased to be granted eternal rest while their loved ones receive the strength to cope with the loss.
Tinubu also commended emergency responders and local authorities for their efforts in rescuing survivors and recovering victims following the accident.
The President directed relevant federal agencies, including the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), to collaborate with the Sokoto State Government in responding to the incident and strengthening safety measures on the state’s waterways.
He further called for strict enforcement of established waterway safety standards to help prevent similar accidents in the future.
Tinubu also prayed for the speedy recovery of those who sustained injuries in the accident and assured the people of Sokoto State that the Federal Government would provide the necessary support during the difficult period.
The President’s directive comes as rescue and recovery efforts continue following the boat mishap in Gorau Community.
