Tinubu’s Certificate Scandal: Stop Debates, Allow Supreme Court To Decide, Agbakoba Tackles Lawyers

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Olisa Agbakoba, on Monday, expressed strong disapproval of lawyers arguing in the public space over President Bola Tinubu’s Chicago State University (CSU) certificate as it remains a subject of litigation.

This follows Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar’s US court case against Tinubu on allegations that the President forged the certificate he submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of the February 25 election.

As Atiku seeks legal redress over the tribunal judgment affirming the election, the former Vice President last week applied for a leave of the Supreme Court to tender Tinubu’s academic records which he said were handed over to him by CSU.

The US court case has generated intense interest among Nigerians, sparking endless discussions and debate.

But Agbakoba, in a statement, expressed exasperation over a perceived disregard of ethics by lawyers wading into the issue before the Supreme Court’s verdict.

“Can we please stop heating up our country!!! Let us allow the Supreme Court of Nigeria to make a judicial pronouncement which is binding on us all!!!! This public nonsense must stop,” he said.
