Troops Arrest 65-Year-Old Woman for Allegedly Supplying Drugs to Boko Haram in Borno

Maiduguri — Troops of the Joint Task Force, North East, Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), under Operation Desert Sanity V, have arrested a 65-year-old suspected drug dealer, Hauwa Abulazeez, in Askira Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.
The suspect is alleged to have been supplying cannabis sativa to Boko Haram terrorists operating in several communities, including Askira Uba, Rumirgo, Gwahi, Wamdiyo, Uvu, and Gaya villages. Military sources described her as a key link in the distribution of illicit drugs within the theatre of operations.
The Media Information Officer of OPHK, Lt. Col. Sani Uba, disclosed that the arrest was carried out on January 23, 2026, following credible intelligence reports.
According to him, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect sourced the drugs from Sarti Baruwa in Taraba State and transported them through established supply routes into Borno State.
During the operation, troops recovered 14 compressed blocks of cannabis sativa weighing about 30 kilograms, believed to be intended to support terrorist and other criminal activities.
Lt. Col. Uba said the suspect is currently in military custody undergoing preliminary investigation, while follow-up operations are ongoing to dismantle the wider drug trafficking network.
He added that the interception has denied Boko Haram access to critical resources, weakened criminal networks, and strengthened security efforts across the region.
The military, he reaffirmed, remains committed to sustained, intelligence-driven operations aimed at restoring lasting peace and stability in the North East.
