Troops Neutralise Terrorists in Kebbi, Rescue 62 Kidnap Victims in Zamfara

Troops of the Joint Task Force, North West, under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have recorded significant operational gains in Kebbi and Zamfara states, neutralising suspected terrorists and rescuing dozens of abducted persons as efforts intensify to restore security across the region.
In Kebbi State, troops operating under Sector 2, acting on credible intelligence, laid an ambush for members of the Lakurawa terrorist group near Augie Local Government Area, close to the Kebbi–Sokoto border. The operation was carried out at Kerani village, a strategic route frequently used by criminal elements to move across communities.
During the encounter, two terrorists were neutralised, while two motorcycles used for logistics and mobility were recovered. Security sources disclosed that the motorcycles were specially modified with accessories for long-distance travel, suggesting plans for sustained cross-border criminal activities.
The sources added that the operation was executed in collaboration with other security agencies and local vigilante groups, highlighting improved cooperation between conventional forces and community-based security outfits in the North West.
Meanwhile, in Zamfara State, troops conducted a separate operation in Munhaye Forest, a known hideout of notorious bandit leader, Kachalla Alti. The raid followed intelligence reports indicating that several kidnapped victims were being held in the area.
The operation resulted in the successful rescue of 62 abducted persons. The freed victims are currently in safe custody, receiving necessary medical attention and undergoing profiling. Military authorities confirmed that arrangements are being made to reunite them with their families.
The recent successes underscore the sustained offensive by Operation FANSAN YAMMA against terrorist and bandit groups, as part of a wider national strategy aimed at dismantling criminal networks, securing rural communities, and restoring public confidence.
Military authorities reiterated their commitment to working closely with other security agencies and local stakeholders to achieve lasting peace, while urging members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to support ongoing security operations nationwide.
