Trump Demands Cuba “Make a Deal” as U.S. Cuts Off Venezuelan Oil and Financial Support

U.S. President Donald Trump issued a stern warning to Cuba on Sunday, urging the island nation to “make a deal” or face unspecified consequences, while declaring that the flow of Venezuelan oil and financial support to Havana would cease immediately.
For decades, Cuba has maintained a close alliance with Venezuela, but Trump’s rhetoric has grown increasingly confrontational following the recent overthrow of Venezuela’s authoritarian leader, Nicolas Maduro, by U.S. forces. The operation in Caracas resulted in Maduro’s capture and the deaths of dozens of Venezuelan and Cuban security personnel.
On his Truth Social platform, Trump emphatically stated, “THERE WILL BE NO MORE OIL OR MONEY GOING TO CUBA – ZERO!” He further urged Cuba to negotiate “BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE,” though he did not clarify the nature of the deal he proposed or the consequences Cuba might face otherwise.
Trump’s comments come one week after the U.S. military’s successful raid that removed Maduro from power, marking a significant shift in U.S. policy toward the region. The president also shared a post suggesting U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, a son of Cuban immigrants, as a potential leader for Cuba, endorsing the idea with the comment, “Sounds good to me!”
