The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, was actively involved in monitoring the conduct of the Area Council elections on Saturday, February 21, 2026, as residents across the territory turned out to elect their local representatives.
Wike began his inspection at polling units located on Lagos Street in Garki 2, where he assessed the level of compliance with electoral guidelines and the general conduct of voters and officials.
During his visit, the minister observed that some traders had opened their shops despite the restrictions placed on commercial activities during the election period. He immediately directed them to close their businesses, reminding them of the importance of complying with electoral rules.
He advised the traders to demonstrate good citizenship by participating in the electoral process, urging them to leave their shops and go out to cast their votes.
The minister continued his monitoring exercise with visits to other locations, including the Karu Chief’s Palace, where he also observed the voting process and interacted with residents and electoral officials.
Wike’s presence at various polling units was part of efforts by the FCT administration to ensure a smooth, orderly, and credible election across the area councils.
