Ogun State All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Solomon Adeola, has expressed deep sadness over the death of veteran Nollywood actor, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, recalling the efforts he and his wife, Temitope, made to support the actor and his family during his illness.
Hassan died on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at the age of 66, after battling stage-four cancer.
In a condolence message signed by Adeola and his wife and shared on Facebook on Monday, the couple described the actor’s death as painful, particularly after his courageous battle with the illness and the widespread prayers and hopes for his recovery.
Adeola said he and his wife remained closely involved with the actor and his family during the difficult period, supporting his treatment and making efforts to ensure he received the necessary medical attention.
He said they remained optimistic that Hassan would overcome the health challenge and return to his family, friends and numerous admirers who continued to pray for his recovery.
“During those difficult moments, we stood closely with him and his family, supporting his treatment and doing everything humanly possible to ensure that he received the necessary medical care.
“We remained hopeful and prayerful that he would overcome the illness and return to the family, friends and countless admirers who cherished him. Sadly, despite all efforts, it has pleased Almighty God to call him home. Indeed, God knows best,” the statement read.
Adeola described Hassan as more than a celebrated veteran of the entertainment industry, saying the late actor was a “dear brother” and a distinguished son of Ilaro and Ogun West.
According to him, Hassan’s decades-long career brought joy to several generations and contributed significantly to the growth and development of Nigeria’s film industry.
“Alhaji Taiwo Hassan was more than an accomplished veteran of the entertainment industry to us; he was a dear brother and a proud son of Ilaro and Ogun West, whose remarkable career brought joy to generations and contributed immensely to the growth and development of the Nigerian film industry.
“His talent, humility and enduring body of work will ensure that his memory lives on,” Adeola said.
The APC governorship candidate extended his condolences to Hassan’s wife, children and other members of his family, as well as the people of Ilaro and Yewaland.
He also commiserated with the actor’s colleagues, associates and the wider entertainment community, describing his death as a significant loss to the people who knew and admired him.
Hassan, widely recognised for his memorable roles in Yoruba-language films and television productions, spent several decades in the Nigerian entertainment industry and earned a reputation as one of the notable figures in the country’s film sector.
His daughters, Kaira and Lima Taiwo, had earlier acknowledged Adeola’s support and assistance to their father during his illness.
