Minister Wike Dismisses Collapse Rumors, Calls Them Political Propaganda

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has refuted widespread social media claims that he collapsed last week, labeling them as politically motivated fabrications aimed at tarnishing his image.

Speaking on Thursday after inspecting four ongoing projects in the FCT, including the International Conference Centre (ICC), Wike addressed the speculation head-on, emphasizing his dedication to fulfilling his responsibilities.

Dismissing the rumors, he stated, “I don’t want to give credence to people who are only interested in carrying rumors. First of all, I’m a human being, it’s not a ghost that will collapse; it’s a human being that will collapse if there is any issue with their health. Unfortunately, I did not collapse.”

The false reports, which spread rapidly on social media platform X, alleged that Wike had collapsed at an event in Abuja last Friday and was subsequently rushed to an undisclosed hospital for treatment. However, days later, the minister made a public appearance, joining other dignitaries in paying a Sallah homage to President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa.

Wike appeared in good spirits during the visit, effectively dispelling concerns about his health. His media aide, Lere Olayinka, had earlier dismissed the rumors as baseless, reinforcing that there was no truth to the claims.
