Wike Commissions New Rural Roads in Kwali, Highlights 150km of FCT Projects

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike, has announced significant progress in rural infrastructure development across Abuja’s satellite towns, emphasizing that over 150 kilometers of roads have been constructed or are currently underway.

Wike made this disclosure on Monday in Abuja during the official commissioning of a newly constructed rural road connecting the A2 Junction on the Abuja-Lokoja Expressway to Pai community in the Kwali Area Council.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the road project is one of 17 infrastructure projects executed by the FCT Administration to commemorate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second year in office.

The Minister explained that the newly commissioned 15-kilometre A2-Pai road was executed under an emergency intervention program. He added that the road forms part of a larger development plan which includes an ongoing 15-kilometre Pai to Gumani road project. This, he noted, will be completed before the end of 2025.

In addition, a 13-kilometre road from Gumani to Yangoji has already been awarded, bringing the total road length under this axis to approximately 45 kilometres.

Wike also highlighted that six emergency road projects—one in each of the FCT’s six area councils—were approved by President Tinubu in the 2024 national budget. He confirmed that all six roads have been completed and inaugurated, following their inclusion in the supplementary budget shortly after he assumed office in August 2023.

The completed road projects include:

9 km Paikon Kore to Ibwa Road in Gwagwalada Area Council

7.2 km Gaba and Tokulo Road in Bwari Area Council

5 km dualised Kuje township road from Tipper Garage to LEA Secretariat in Kuje Area Council

11 km Sukuku-Ebo-Yangoji Road in Kwali Area Council

5 km access road to Saburi I and II in Abuja Municipal Area Council

5 km road in Abaji Area Council

Looking ahead to 2025, Wike revealed plans to commission additional strategic road projects, including:

10 km Aguma Palace–Radio Nigeria–Market Road in Gwagwalada

18 km Nyanya-Karshi dual carriageway

7.4 km Dutse Alhaji–Usuma Dam Road

16.4 km dualised Ushafa–War College–Army Checkpoint Road in Bwari Area Council

Summarizing the administration’s achievements, the minister emphasized that the total road coverage in the FCT’s satellite towns stands at over 150 kilometres. He stressed the strategic importance of these road networks—not only for boosting rural economic activities and improving quality of life but also for strengthening security responses in underserved communities.

“We are presenting these facts so that skeptics and doubting Thomases can verify the reality on the ground. These projects are not propaganda; they are visible, tangible developments,” Wike said.
