In a coordinated offensive aimed at eradicating insurgent threats in the Lake Chad region, troops of Operation Hadin Kai, working in concert with the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), successfully neutralized ten Boko Haram terrorists during a fierce gunfight along the Rann–Gamboru Ngala axis, near Nigeria’s border with Cameroon.
The Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Markus Kangye, confirmed the development on Tuesday, describing the mission as a deliberate and strategic operation targeting the remnants of Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in border communities.
According to Major General Kangye, the joint forces launched the assault after receiving credible intelligence on the presence of terrorist elements between Rann and Gamboru. Upon arrival, the troops engaged the insurgents in a heavy exchange of gunfire, which ended with the death of 10 fighters, overwhelmed by the superior firepower of Nigerian and MNJTF troops.
Following the successful combat engagement, the soldiers recovered a significant cache of arms and ammunition at the scene, including anti-aircraft rounds. The recovered weapons have been secured for technical analysis to support ongoing counter-terrorism efforts in the area.
Major General Kangye further noted that the operation forms part of a broader strategy to assert control over the southern axis of the Lake Chad Basin and prevent the movement of terrorists across national borders. He assured the public of the Nigerian Armed Forces’ unwavering commitment, in collaboration with the MNJTF, hybrid forces, and other security agencies, to sustain aggressive operations in Northern Borno and surrounding areas until all terrorist strongholds are dismantled.
