APC Dominants Lagos LG Polls Amid Low Voter Turnout as Sorting Continues Across 57 Councils

The All Progressives Congress (APC) is currently leading in the ongoing collation of results following the conclusion of local government elections across Lagos State’s 57 councils. Voting officially ended at about 3 p.m., and sorting of ballots is ongoing in various wards.

The elections were characterized by a low turnout of voters across most of the local government areas. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who voted at his polling unit in Adeniji-Adele Ward, acknowledged the low participation and also addressed the delay experienced in the early hours of the day, attributing it to logistical challenges.

Preliminary results as of 4 p.m. indicate that the APC has taken the lead in several strategic areas, including Sanwo-Olu’s polling unit — Unit 006 at St. Stevens Nursery and Primary School, Adeniji-Adele. Other areas showing strong APC performances include Yaba, Somolu, Bariga, Ikeja, and Agege. In these areas, results for both chairmanship and councilorship positions have been declared, with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) trailing behind in second place and the Labour Party (LP) following in third.

Meanwhile, the APC Chairmanship candidate for Yaba Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Adebayo Adefuye, expressed satisfaction with the electoral process, describing it as smooth, peaceful, and transparent. After casting his vote, Adefuye emphasized the significance of the local government elections, stating that they are critical because they connect directly with the grassroots population.

Unveiling his campaign blueprint titled “Yaba tuntun” — which translates to “New Yaba” — Adefuye articulated a vision for reform and progress in the LCDA, highlighting the plan as a corrective strategy aimed at addressing past governance lapses.

He also commended the Federal Government’s recent enforcement of local government financial autonomy. Applauding President Bola Tinubu for driving the initiative, Adefuye affirmed that the move would deepen democratic governance and improve service delivery at the grassroots level.
