President Bola Tinubu has approved a major cut in the cost of kidney dialysis in federal hospitals, lowering the fee from ₦50,000 to ₦12,000 per session.
The announcement was made on Monday by Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to the President on Policy Information, through his official X handle.
According to Bwala, the decision represents a significant intervention aimed at easing the financial burden on thousands of Nigerians battling kidney-related illnesses. “With this intervention, the price of each dialysis session has been reduced from ₦50,000 to just ₦12,000, bringing relief to citizens suffering from kidney diseases,” he stated.
The subsidy has already taken effect in several federal hospitals across the six geopolitical zones. These include:
Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Ebute-Metta, Lagos
Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Jabi, Abuja
University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan
Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owerri
University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), Maiduguri
Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Abeokuta

Bwala further revealed that additional medical centres and teaching hospitals will be included in the subsidy program before the year ends to expand access nationwide.
He also recalled that the President had earlier approved free caesarean sections (C-sections) in federal hospitals, a policy designed to improve maternal healthcare and reduce preventable maternal deaths across the country.
