The Ogun State High Court sitting in Sagamu has ordered former governor of the state, Senator Gbenga Daniel, to provide the necessary documents requested by the state government within a two-week period.
At the resumed hearing of Suit No: HCS/371/2025 on Tuesday, Justice O. S. Oloyede directed Daniel to submit the required papers in accordance with the government’s demand, which was also made to other residents in the affected area.
Representing the Ogun State government, Solicitor General and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Justice, O.T. Olaotan, appeared alongside R.B. Kadiri (Deputy Chief Litigation), A.E. Odukoya, and W.A. Onawole. They informed the court that interlocutory injunctions and counter-affidavits had been filed in response to Daniel’s motion and duly served on the claimants’ legal representatives.
The government’s counsel stressed that the matter was not yet ripe for hearing and noted that the court was not inclined to consider the application at this stage.
On the other hand, A.O. Kotoye (SAN), representing the claimants along with O.T. Are and A.O. Adeniyi, urged the court to extend an interim order earlier granted, which was due to expire after seven days.
The defence countered that the claimants/applicants should make use of the government’s two-week extension period to submit the required documents to the Ogun State Ministry of Physical Planning, pointing out that other affected residents had already begun to comply.
Justice Oloyede subsequently directed all parties to maintain the status quo and encouraged them to consider settlement options. He also instructed the claimants/applicants to take advantage of the extension period by providing the necessary documents as demanded by the government.
Both counsel for the claimants and defendants agreed to an adjournment, leading the court to fix 13th October 2025 for the hearing of the pending applications.
