Troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) have neutralised several Boko Haram and Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters in a series of coordinated operations across Borno and Yobe States, according to a military source.
The source explained that the operations formed part of sustained efforts to deny the insurgents freedom of movement and to consolidate security dominance in the North East.
On August 22, troops of the 21 Special Armoured Brigade successfully repelled a large-scale night attack on their Forward Operating Base in Kumshe, Borno State. The insurgents, who stormed the base in significant numbers with assorted weapons, were met with strong ground resistance supported by precise airstrikes from the Nigerian Air Force.
“Exploitation after the engagement revealed over 20 terrorists killed, including dismembered bodies hurriedly buried in shallow graves. Several weapons were also recovered,” the source disclosed.
On the same day, Sector 1 troops launched an offensive around Dipchari, near Banki Junction in Bama Local Government Area, engaging insurgents in a fierce gun battle. The encounter left scores of terrorists dead. Troops recovered an RPG tube, two AK-47 rifles, two magazines, 16 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and two motorcycles from the scene.
Similarly, on August 23, Sector 2 troops working jointly with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) conducted a long-range clearance operation around Ndoksa, near Buni Gari in Yobe State. More terrorists were neutralised, and items recovered included an AK-47 rifle and two motorcycles.
The source emphasised that the series of coordinated offensives had significantly weakened the terrorists’ firepower, disrupted their logistics network, and further strengthened the dominance of Nigerian troops in the region.
