Senator representing Ogun East and former governor of Ogun State, Chief Gbenga Daniel, has been suspended from the All Progressives Congress (APC) over a series of alleged anti-party activities dating back to the 2023 general elections and extending to the recent House of Representatives by-election in Remo.
According to party insiders, Daniel’s suspension was initiated by the leadership of Ward 4 in Sagamu Local Government Area and later ratified by the State Working Committee (SWC) at a meeting presided over by the Ogun State APC chairman, Chief Yemi Sanusi.
The senator was accused of deliberately distancing himself from the APC’s campaign during the Remo by-election, even when the National Chairman of the party, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, personally visited Ogun State to lead the rally. Instead, Daniel was alleged to have instructed his loyalists to vote “like they did last time,” an apparent reference to the March 18, 2023 governorship election in which he was said to have directed his supporters to back the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Hon. Kessington Adebutu. Adebutu is currently facing trial on allegations of vote buying and criminal conspiracy.
The APC leadership expressed anger over the senator’s actions, stressing that Daniel had benefitted from extraordinary privileges since joining the party but had consistently undermined it, except during his own senatorial election. Matters escalated further when Daniel and his allies reportedly threatened Ward 4 executives after he was summoned to address the accusations.
Party stakeholders recalled that Governor Dapo Abiodun had been persuaded by traditional rulers, led by the late Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba (Dr.) Sikiru Adetona, to support Daniel’s senatorial ambition. At the time, Abiodun convinced then-sitting senator Lekan Mustapha to step aside for Daniel.
However, after securing the ticket and winning the election, Daniel allegedly turned against Governor Abiodun. Sources claim he reasoned that weakening Abiodun’s chances of re-election in 2023 would put him in a stronger position to retain the Ogun East ticket in 2027, since both politicians hail from the same senatorial district.
To achieve this, the senator was said to have entered into a political arrangement with Adebutu’s camp immediately after his senatorial victory.

Would you like me to make this version sound like a straight news report (objective, no loaded words) or like an insider political analysis (sharper, with more hints of scheming and betrayal)?
