The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has uncovered a major drug trafficking operation involving cocaine concealed in body cream containers and methamphetamine hidden in household items, while simultaneously raiding a Lagos nightclub hosting a drug-fueled party.
NDLEA spokesman Femi Babafemi stated that the raid occurred in the early hours of Sunday, October 26, at Proxy Night Club, Victoria Island, Lagos. Over 100 individuals were arrested, including the nightclub owner, Mike Eze Nwalie Nwogu, popularly known as Pretty Mike.
“Cartons containing illicit substances, including nitrous oxide (Loud) and laughing gas, were recovered both from suspects at the party and from the club’s storage facilities,” Babafemi said. The operation, carried out around 3 a.m., was based on prior intelligence reports.
In a separate operation at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja, Lagos, NDLEA officers intercepted 70 parcels of cocaine weighing a total of 3.6 kilograms. The drugs were concealed in cocoa butter body cream containers and were bound for London. A cargo agent, Lawal Mustapha Olakunle, was arrested, leading to the apprehension of two key accomplices: Ogunmuyide Taiwo Deborah and Mutiu Adebayo Adebiyi, the CEO of a travel agency.
At Akanu Ibiam International Airport (AIIA), Enugu, a 35-year-old Lesotho national, Lemena Mark, was arrested for attempting to export 103.59 grams of methamphetamine hidden inside a diabeta herbs coffee tea pack to the Philippines.
In Kwara State, NDLEA operatives apprehended 40-year-old Umar Abubakar after discovering 21,950 capsules of tramadol 250mg hidden inside a 100-litre water heater. Similarly, in Taraba State, Auwal Musa, 26, and Salihu Bala, 22, were arrested at a checkpoint in Dan-Anacha with 450,000 pills of tramadol and Exol-5.
Other notable seizures included 162.2 kilograms of skunk cannabis in Kogi State, 128 kilograms in Nasarawa, and 500 grams of Loud recovered from a major distributor, Oyonumoh Glory Effiong, in Lekki, Lagos. In Ikorodu, 275 litres of “skuchies”—a mix of cannabis, blackcurrant drink, and opioids—were seized.
NDLEA also reported additional arrests in Abia, Ondo, Kaduna, and Zamfara states, where firearms and ammunition were seized from individuals attempting to supply bandits.
These coordinated operations highlight NDLEA’s ongoing commitment to tackling drug trafficking and related criminal activities across Nigeria.
